King Dunlap (Philadelphia Eagles)

Contract details:
3/30/2012: Signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract. Another $1 million is available through incentives.

Eagles re-signed OT King Dunlap to a one-year contract.
The 6-foot-9 Dunlap started one game at left tackle and another at left guard last season before a November concussion sent him to the sidelines for a month. He'll return as the swing tackle behind LT Jason Peters and RT Todd Herremans.

Bruce Campbell (Carolina Panthers)

Panthers acquired G/T Bruce Campbell from the Raiders in exchange for RB Mike Goodson.
A "workout warrior" during the 2010 Scouting Combine, Campbell was drafted by Al Davis two Aprils ago after running a 4.85 forty at 6-foot-6 3/8 and 314 pounds. He has freakish, 36 1/4-inch arms, but remains a major project going on age 24. Campbell never made a start in two seasons with the Raiders. He'll have to compete for a role as a backup, swing-type tackle in Carolina.

Antwan Applewhite (Carolina Panthers)

Antwan Applewhite contract Carolina Panthers...
Panthers re-signed DE/OLB Antwan Applewhite.
A favorite of coach Ron Rivera, Applewhite gets high marks for special teams prowess and locker room presence. He's also flashed pass rushing ability going back to his early career with the Chargers. Applewhite will be a backup in 2012 after recording 21 tackles and two sacks last season.

J.T. Brown (Tampa Bay Lightning)

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed college free agent J.T. Brown to a two-year contract.
"He has all the top characteristics we look for in a player, including high skill and compete levels," GM Steve Yzerman said. "We're glad he chose to play for the Lightning and we look forward to getting him in the lineup as quickly as possible." Brown notched 24 goals and added 23 assists in 39 games for the University of Minnesota-Duluth during his sophomore season in 2011-12. He is expected to join the Lightning later this week and will probably get into a game before the season ends

Antonio Garay (San Diego Chargers)

Chargers re-signed NT Antonio Garay to a two-year contract.
One of the league's top run-pluggers in 2010, Garay's effectiveness waned in his age-32 season. He's started 28 of 32 games the past two years after appearing in just 16 games from 2003-2009. The Chargers did not make it a priority to sign Garay early on because 2010 fifth-rounder Cam Thomas played well in a rotational role last year.

Donnie Jones (Houston Texans)

Texans agreed to terms with P Donnie Jones on a one-year contract.
Jones, who turns 32 before the season, spent the last five year punting for the Rams. His 2011 net average of 37.0 ranked 31st in the league and was the worst of Jones' tenure in St. Louis. Texans incumbent punter, Brett Hartmann, is coming off a torn ACL and facing a three-game suspension to open the year.

Anthony Hargrove (Green Bay Packers)

Packers agreed to terms with DL Anthony Hargrove, formerly of the Saints.
Hargrove, 28, has been primarily an interior pass rusher in recent seasons, but the Packers will likely give him a look as a right end in the role once filled by Cullen Jenkins. The Packers can't count on Mike Neal after a four-game PEDs suspension, and C.J. Wilson and Jarius Wynn are "just guys." Hargrove can get after the quarterback when his head is on straight. The Packers remain interested in DL Dave Tollefson, who is visiting on Thursday.

Anthony Bitetto (Nashville Predators)

The Nashville Predators have agreed to a two-year, entry-level contract with Anthony Bitetto.
The sixth-round pick of the Predators in 2010 just finished his second season with Northeastern University, where he picked up four goals, 11 assists and 34 penalty minutes in 34 games.

Broncos re-signed OLB/DE Jason Hunter

Broncos re-signed OLB/DE Jason Hunter.
Hunter was limited primarily to special teams last season following the arrival of rookie sensation Von Miller. He has appeared in all 32 games with Denver the past two seasons, and will continue to pinch in as a backup pass rusher.

Steven Pearce (New York Yankees)

Yankees signed 1B Steven Pearce to a minor league contract.
Pearce was released by the Twins this week after collecting just two hits in 15 at-bats this spring. He's expected to open the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Zach Duke (Washington Nationals)

Nationals signed LHP Zach Duke to a minor league contract.
Duke was released by the Astros this week after allowing 10 runs over 3 1/3 innings this spring. The 28-year-old left-hander will likely open the season in the Triple-A Syracuse rotation.

Jason Jaramillo (Milwaukee Brewers)

Brewers signed C Jason Jaramillo to a minor league contract.
Jaramillo was released by the Cubs earlier this week. The 29-year-old backstop has a .235/.293/.327 batting line over 366 plate appearances in the big leagues and will presumably serve as depth at the Triple-A level.

Greg Pateryn (Montreal Canadiens)

Montreal has signed prospect Greg Pateryn to a two-year contract.
He posted 15 points and 65 penalty minutes in 41 contests from the back end with the University of Michigan in 2011-12. Pateryn was originally a fifth-round pick of Toronto in 2008, but he was acquired by the Canadiens as part of the Mikhail Grabovski trade.

Devin Thomas (Chicago Bears)

Bears signed WR Devin Thomas to a one-year contract.
Thomas has been a bust as the former 34th overall pick in the draft, but he made some big special teams plays during the Giants' Super Bowl run last year. Thomas is still only 25 years old and ran 4.32, 4.34 at the 2008 Scouting Combine at 6-foot-2, 215. We wouldn't rule out Thomas developing receiver skills, but his early-career track record certainly isn't promising.

Phillies signed INF-OF Joe Thurston to a minor league contract

Phillies signed INF-OF Joe Thurston to a minor league contract.
Thurston was just released by the Astros on Wednesday morning. The 32-year-old isn't a candidate for the major league roster and is likely to open the season with either Double-A Reading or Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Jason Zucker (Minnesota Wild)

Jason Zucker has agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Minnesota Wild.
Zucker had 22 goals and 46 points in 38 contests with the University of Denver this season. He is projected to play in his first NHL contest on Thursday. "In college, he was a first-line player who scored goals," Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said. "I hope there's elements of both of that in his game, but time will tell. He can shoot the puck, he skates well and he's got a strong work ethic. But right now he's a 20-year-old prospect who's got a lot to learn."

Manny Lawson (Cincinnati Bengals)

Free agent OLB Manny Lawson is telling teammates that he has agreed to terms with the Bengals.
Lawson drew light interest from the Packers, Colts, and Raiders, but not enough to be lured away from the Queen City. An early-down strong-side linebacker with little pass-rushing ability, Lawson is an asset in coverage and run support.

Yankees signed DH Jack Cust to a minor league contract

Yankees signed DH Jack Cust to a minor league contract.
Cust was released by the Astros on Tuesday after battling an elbow injury while collecting just one hit in 25 at-bats this spring. His power has faded a bit over the past couple of years, but he still knows how to draw a walk. The 33-year-old will serve as insurance at the Triple-A level.

Brandon Jacobs (San Francisco 49ers)

49ers agreed to terms with Brandon Jacobs, formerly of the Giants, on a one-year contract.
Jacobs is joining Randy Moss and former Giants teammate Mario Manningham as offensive additions in San Francisco. The 49ers will remain a run-dominant offense, with Jacobs perhaps handling the majority of the short-yardage and goal-line work, putting a dent in Frank Gore's fantasy value. Should Gore miss time, though, the more explosive Kendall Hunter would remain the back to own. Anthony Dixon appears to be the odd man out of the backfield picture.

Cartier Martin (Washington Wizards)

Wizards will re-sign G/F Cartier Martin to a 10-day contract.
Martin was lighting up the D-League to the tune of 18.3 points per game on 55.6 percent shooting. He also ripped up the Chinese Basketball Association for 26.3 points per night in 30 games during the lockout. Martin will likely replace Edwin Ubiles as depth on the roster.

Malcolm Thomas (Houston Rockets)

Rockets signed F Malcolm Thomas to a 10-day contract.
Thomas will immediately be optioned to the D-League. The Rockets need roster space for healthy point guards and can evaluate if they want to commit to Thomas long term by giving him minutes in the minors.

Demar Dotson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)

Bucs re-signed OT Demar Dotson to a one-year, $1.26 million deal.
A restricted free agent, Dotson signed his original-round tender. A former college basketball player who stands in at a towering 6-foot-9, 315 pounds, Dotson appeared in 13 games last season, making two starts. LT Donald Penn and RT Jeremy Trueblood have the Bucs' starting tackle jobs locked down, but the 26-year-old Dotson should serve as their top reserve.

Kevin Smith (Detroit Lions)

Lions re-signed RB Kevin Smith to a one-year contract.
One season after going unsigned until November, Smith gets a soft landing with the only team he's ever known. Coming off another injury-checkered campaign, he received no other known interest in free agency. Smith was effective and versatile when he managed to get on the field in 2011, but less so after severely spraining his ankle on Thanksgiving. If all goes according to plan for the Lions, he'll join Jahvid Best (concussions) and Mikel Leshoure (Achilles) in a three-man, rotational backfield. Smith's injury history and the presence of Best and Leshoure greatly curb his fantasy upside in both dynasty and redraft formats.

Todd McClure (Atlanta Falcons)

Falcons re-signed C Todd McClure to a one-year contract.
McClure had talks with the Rams immediately after the start of free agency, but otherwise drew little interest in a market overfilled with centers. It's good news for the Falcons, who don't have to commit to a player who turned 35 in February beyond 2012, and retain someone who was still one of the league's better centers in 2011. McClure has spent his entire 13-year career in Atlanta.

Greg Toler (Arizona Cardinals)

Cardinals re-signed CB Greg Toler to a one-year, $1.26 million deal.
A restricted free agent, Toler was tendered at the original-round level. Still not back to 100 percent after tearing his left ACL during training camp last season, Toler will have to beat out William Gay and A.J. Jefferson to start opposite Patrick Peterson. Toler was not particularly adept in coverage his lone season as a starter in 2010.

Alan Anderson was signed to a 10-day

Alan Anderson was signed to a 10-day contract on Monday.
This says more about the health of DeMar DeRozan (ankle) and Jerryd Bayless (hip) than it does about Anderson, himself. Only if Gary Forbes goes down will Anderson have any value.

Patriots released FB Lousaka Polite

Patriots released FB Lousaka Polite.
The writing was on the wall for the 30-year-old after New England came to terms with Tony Fiammetta earlier today, after also signing Spencer Larsen. Polite was a late season addition for New England in 2011, playing only 24 snaps.

Kevin Millwood (Seattle Mariners)

Mariners purchased the contract of RHP Kevin Millwood.
Millwood is now officially on the M's 40-man roster. The veteran right-hander secured a rotation spot after posting a 3.21 ERA and 12/3 K/BB ratio over 14 innings his spring. The Mariners will likely infuse some youth in their rotation eventually, but Millwood has some value in AL-only leagues for now

Mariners purchased the contract of INF Munenori Kawasaki

Mariners purchased the contract of INF Munenori Kawasaki.
Kawasaki earned a spot on the Mariners' bench after hitting .387 (12-for-31) with 10 RBI and two stolen bases this spring. The 30-year-old had a .636 OPS last season in Japan and is more known for his glove than the bat, so he shouldn't be on your fantasy radar.
Monday, March 26, 2012

Josh Selby (Memphis Grizzlies)

Grizzlies assigned G Josh Selby to the Reno Bighorns of the D-League.
It's Selby's second stint in the minors. He spent four game with the Bighorns back in February, averaging 21.5 points per game.

Earl Boykins (Houston Rockets)

Rockets agreed to terms with PG Earl Boykins on a 10-day contract, a source tells Yahoo.
With Kyle Lowry (bacterial infection) nowhere near a return and Kevin Martin (shoulder) also sidelined, the Rockets are desperate. The 5'5/133 Boykins has been out of the league all season, but did manage 7.2 points per game in 57 appearances with the Bucks last season. He'll be support behind Goran Dragic and Courtney Lee.

Reggie Walker (Arizona Cardinals)

Cardinals re-signed ILB Reggie Walker to a two-year contract.
Walker, 25, was originally not tendered as a restricted free agent, so he's likely returning for minimum salaries in both seasons. The former Kansas State Wildcat is almost strictly a special teamer. He had 16 tackles in 2012.

Matthew Mulligan (St. Louis Rams)

Rams signed TE Matthew Mulligan to a two-year contract.
Mulligan, a 27-year-old blocking specialist, will replace outgoing free agent Billy Bajema in the role. Mulligan knows new Rams OC Brian Schottenheimer's scheme from their time together with the Jets. He has six career catches.

Tony Fiammetta (New England Patriots)

Patriots agreed to terms with FB Tony Fiammetta, formerly of the Cowboys.
Fiammetta, 26, has flashed difference-making ability as a lead blocker when healthy, although an extended absence due to a mysterious, possibly concussion-related illness cost him time in 2011. The Cowboys' running game was adversely affected. Fiammetta becomes the fourth fullback on New England's roster, joining Spencer Larsen, Eric Kettani, and Lousaka Polite.

Zackary Bowman (Minnesota Vikings)

Vikings signed CB Zackary Bowman to a one-year contract.
It's believed to be a non-guaranteed deal worth the league minimum. Bowman has been signed away from the rival Bears, though he made just one start in 2011, where the majority of his snaps came on special teams. He was a 12-game starter in 2009, however, and provides veteran insurance for a Vikings' secondary that was decimated by injury and suspension last season.

Mike Leach (Arizona Cardinals)

Cardinals re-signed LS Mike Leach to a three-year contract.
Leach, 35, has been the Cardinals' long snapper since 2009.

Steve Smith (St. Louis Rams)

Rams signed WR Steve Smith to a one-year contract.
Smith, who turns 27 in May, spent the 2011 season as the Eagles' No. 5 receiver behind DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, and Riley Cooper. One of the NFL's top slot receivers in 2009, when Smith set a Giants franchise record with 107 catches, the former second-round pick's NFL career has stalled due to 2010 microfracture surgery. When healthy, Smith is a possession receiver and won't remedy St. Louis' needs at both outside receiver spots. He's just a flier signing for training camp at this point.

Mets signed RHP Chris Young to a minor league contract

Mets signed RHP Chris Young to a minor league contract.
Young wanted an incentive-laden, major league contract, but that obviously wasn't going to happen after he underwent surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his right shoulder last May. Young will not be ready for the start of the season, so the structure of his deal allows the Mets to place him on the minor league disabled list and work him back slowly. Young has begun a throwing program. Expect to see him in Queens later this summer.

Rams re-signed FB Brit Miller

St. Louis Rams re-signed FB Brit Miller.
Steven Jackson's lead blocker each of the past two seasons, Miller missed the final four games of 2011 after landing on injured reserve with an unspecified knee injury. He tore his ACL in 2010. Miller's health history makes it unlikely the Rams will enter camp with just one fullback.

Chicago Cubs released RHP Andy Sonnanstine

Cubs released RHP Andy Sonnanstine.
Sonnanstine refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa and was granted his freedom. It doesn't appear to be in the hurler's best interest, as there are few organizations with an easier path to major league inning as the Cubs at this point. Sonnanstine gave up eight runs on 13 hits over five innings this spring. He'll receive a minor league pact elsewhere, but has no chance at a big league job out of the gate.
Sunday, March 25, 2012

William Gay (Arizona Cardinals)

Cardinals signed CB William Gay.
Like Tashard Choice, Gay broke the news himself on Twitter. Gay takes the roster spot of CB Richard Marshall, and gives the Cardinals insurance on CB Greg Toler as he completes his recovery from a torn ACL. With Patrick Peterson and A.J. Jefferson also in the fold at corner, Gay might begin the year as low as fourth on the depth chart, but could also see time at safety. Marshall played both corner and safety in 2011, and Pittsburgh was mulling re-signing Gay as a safety before letting him walk. Going by opposing quarterback completion percentage, Gay was one of the league's poorer starting corners in 2011.

Caleb Hanie (Denver Broncos)

Broncos agreed to terms with QB Caleb Hanie on a two-year contract.
Denver was Hanie's lone free agent visit. While he'd flashed promise in preseasons past, Hanie went 0-4 in spot starts for the Bears last season and was benched for street free agent Josh McCown. The Broncos shouldn't be done adding QB talent with Hanie and Adam Weber on the roster behind Peyton Manning. Look for a mid- to late-round pick on the position in April's draft.
